Christmas food baskets
The holiday season rhymes with precariousness and financial insecurity for thousands of Quebecers living in poverty. The food banks multiply their efforts during this period in order to allow everyone to spend beautiful moments with their loved ones and to celebrate in dignity. It is therefore an opportunity for those who can afford it to share and show solidarity with less fortunate families for whom the holiday season can be particularly difficult.
This year, La Halte is partnering with the Vertical Community Centre to collect non-perishable food items that will be used to assemble Christmas baskets. This neighbouring organization runs a food bank that assists residents of the neighbourhood in times of emergency. Vertical also offers services for newcomers (training, job search advice, etc.)
To encourage our members to give generously, we are offering them, in exchange for their participation, an additional chance to win a prize in our Christmas Eve draw on December 15.
Items must be non-perishable and containers must be unbreakable. Here are some ideas of items to donate for our collection:
- Dry goods: Flour, rice, couscous, cereals
- Canned goods: Legumes, meats, prepared meals, soups
- Snacks: Cookies, spreads, nuts, dried fruit
- Beverages: Tea, coffee, juice
- Dry or canned food for animals
We invite you to participate in large numbers in this collection which will undoubtedly become a tradition of the Halte 24-7.
