Spotlight on our members: NunanuQ Services Interculturels

Wednesday March 26th, 2025, 2:28 PM

We are pleased to present a new edition of our series dedicated to our members, their projects, and their personalized packages at Halte. This week, we highlight NunanuQ Intercultural Services, an organization that supports immigrant parents or those from diverse cultural backgrounds in their adaptation and integration process, which we have recently welcomed to Halte!

Can you briefly introduce NUNANUQ Intercultural Services and explain what your field of activity, mission, and/or services consist of?

NunanuQ Intercultural Services is a company specializing in helping relationships and intercultural training. Our mission is to support parents from diverse cultural backgrounds through an approach based on the ethics of recognition. We have two main components: a training center for professionals with our flagship continuous training program, "Intercultural Parental Coaching," and a counseling and support clinic for parents, which we serve in five languages: French, English, Spanish, Arabic, and Creole. We cover all of Quebec through our team distributed across several cities such as Quebec City, Rimouski, and Montreal. We have also had the honor of training professionals in France!

Why did you choose a coworking space instead of another type of office?

It’s the coworking space that chose me! And especially Halte 24-7. I was looking for a space with flexible hours, amenities such as meeting rooms, and, most importantly, a way to break the isolation I experienced as an entrepreneur. Coming here is both a professional space and a true meeting place, almost like a big family. It really facilitates the transition from “solopreneur” to managing an organization.

Tell us a little about your role, your background, and the motivations that led you to found your company.

I have always been involved in helping relationships since I arrived in Quebec 26 years ago. With my Master's in Clinical Psychology from France, I began my career as a specialized educator at DPJ, then worked as a parental capacity evaluator before being admitted to the management succession program. However, with the arrival of the pandemic, I left everything behind to reflect on my career choices and, most importantly, my deeper mission. The situation of immigrant parents has always resonated with me. In fact, in 2017, I co-wrote, with TCRI (Table de concertation des réfugiés et des immigrants), researchers from UdeM, and the Center of Expertise on Abuse, the "Espace-Parents" initiative. This is a series of eight workshops aimed at facilitating the transition of new arrivals into their parenting roles. While we all want the best for our children, the ways to achieve this vary from place to place and may sometimes conflict with our new environment. However, I felt that there was a missing link in this chain, as I saw many parents in distress who were afraid to ask for help. That’s why I trained in coaching, as I am someone who focuses on solutions and also on the issue of parental burnout. With these new skills, I launched my business in 2022. I was alone at first, but today, eight coaches have joined the team.

Can you share some details about your current projects?

The largest project currently in progress is our annual event: the National Salon of Families from Diverse Cultural Backgrounds (SNFDC). This is our second edition, which will be held on May 17 at the Ruby Foo’s Hotel in Montreal. This event is part of Quebec Family Week and highlights the contribution of families from diverse cultural backgrounds. It’s both a festive moment and an opportunity for service providers to connect with their clientele and network. This year, the emphasis is on youth. Our guest of honor is the former Canadian Consul, Roxane Dubé, who will share her experience as a mother of racialized children.

What are your aspirations and projects for the coming years?

In the coming years, I plan to establish service points in major centers across Quebec and to break into francophone communities in other provinces. Teleconsultation is opening the doors to the French-speaking world.
